Spring 1999. A lot of the ten or so people that have seen my drawings like to ask me if I've ever seen Spirited Away. I have. I saw it for the first time in December 2004. I like Miyazaki's stuff, but I don't think it has really influenced mine. Watching rented anime in high school has probably colored things some - notably the Urusei Yatsura series, and it would be hard to argue Dr. Suess isn't hiding behind a bush or a building in each of these drawings. But, really, everything I ever needed to know about drawing I learned from The Secret City, a freakin' unbelievable drawing show starring Commander Mark! It ran on public TV when I was a kid.
